Cheesy Crescent Bratdogs

Advertisements

Brats wrapped inside their own golden-brown crescent roll for game day or any day!

When it comes to appetizers that pay dividends, these are about as good as it gets. They are cheesy and meaty and the crescent rolls are a perfect soft and flakey wrapper.

Cheesy Crescent Bratdogs

  • Step one to make these guys is to cook the brats. There are many ways to cook a bratwurst but my personal favorite is to simmer them in beer. For this recipe, any beer will work, honestly, so feel free to use a light lager.
  • Simmer them for 10 minutes or so on medium heat and then cover them and remove them from the heat and let the brats continue to cook in the hot beer for 10 minutes until they are cooked through. (Not into beer? Just boil them in water instead.)
  • Meanwhile, you can prepare your crescent rolls and fillings! There’s not much to prepare, but there ya go.
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and when your brats are done simmering, remove them from the beer and let them cool for a minute or two so you can handle them.
  • Then slice each brat in half, slit it down the center, and stuff each one with cheese. I used a nice smoked cheddar with black pepper for my version.
  • Then line a baking sheet with parchment paper and roll out your crescent rolls. Spread each roll with mustard and add each brat to the wider end of the crescent roll.
  • Then just roll it up! Not much to it!
  • Space out all the crescent rolls on the baking sheet and you’re ready to go.
  • These will need to bake for about 14 minutes at 350 degrees. The crescent rolls should be golden brown — and, by the way, it’s perfectly fine if some of the cheese melts out of them.
  • Eat these as soon as possible while the crescent rolls are still nice and warm. One crescent roll is a pretty hearty appetizer!
