Equipment

  • Chopping board
  • Sharp knife or food processor
  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Jar or airtight container for storage

Materials

  • 1 cup fresh parsley finely chopped
  • 4 –5 garlic cloves minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh oregano chopped, or 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 2 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice optional, for brightness
  • 1/2 tsp red chili flakes adjust to taste 🌶️
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika optional, for a smoky twist

Instructions

  • Chop Fresh Ingredients: Finely chop the parsley, garlic, and oregano. If using a food processor, pulse gently to avoid over-processing.
  • Mix Together: Combine all the ingredients in a mixing bowl: parsley, garlic, oregano, olive oil, red wine vinegar, lemon juice (if using), chili flakes, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • Adjust Consistency: Stir well to ensure the flavors meld. If the sauce feels too thick, add a touch more olive oil or vinegar.
  • Rest for Flavor: Let the chimichurri rest for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to develop fully.
  • Store Properly: Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 1 week. Bring to room temperature before serving.

Notes

✨ Tips for the Perfect Chimichurri:

  • Use fresh herbs for the most vibrant flavor.
  • For a smoother texture, blend all ingredients in a food processor.
  • Adjust the spice level by adding more or fewer red chili flakes.
  • Let it sit overnight for a more intense flavor.

🍽️ Variations:

  • Spicy Chimichurri: Add fresh jalapeño or serrano peppers for extra heat. 🌶️
  • Cilantro Twist: Swap half the parsley for fresh cilantro for a unique flavor profile. 🌿
  • Smoky Touch: Add a dash of smoked paprika or chipotle for a rich, smoky depth. 🔥
  • Vegan Marinade: Use it as a marinade for tofu, eggplant, or zucchini slices.
