Equipment

  • Nonstick skillet or cast iron
  • Medium bowl for the sauce
  • Small bowl for marinating fish
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board
  • Measuring spoons

Ingredients

  • For the Fish
  • 1 lb about 500 g of white fish fillets (tilapia, cod, or your favorite)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika sweet or hot, to taste
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Juice of 1 fresh lime optional, adds extra tang
  • For the Secret Sauce
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup sour cream or Greek yogurt for a lighter version
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce such as sriracha, or your favorite
  • 1 clove garlic very finely chopped or ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro optional
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Toppings & Extras
  • 8 small tortillas corn or flour, warmed
  • Shredded cabbage or lettuce
  • Sliced avocado optional
  • Diced tomatoes or pico de gallo
  • Chopped cilantro
  • Lime wedges

Instructions

  • Prep the Fish
  • In a small bowl, combine olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, cumin, salt, and black pepper. If you like extra tang, add the lime juice. Coat your fish fillets with this mixture on all sides.
  • Cook the Fish
  • Skillet Method: Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each fillet for 3–4 minutes per side, or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
  • Grill Option: Lightly oil the grill grates and place seasoned fish over medium-high heat, grilling for about 3–5 minutes per side. Keep an eye on it to avoid overcooking.
  • Make the Secret Sauce
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, lime juice, hot sauce, garlic, and cilantro (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste. Refrigerate for at least 10 minutes to let the flavors meld.
  • Assemble the Tacos
  • Warm the tortillas (microwave, stovetop, or oven). Fill each tortilla with pieces of cooked fish, drizzle with the Secret Sauce, and top with shredded cabbage, avocado, diced tomatoes, and fresh cilantro.
    8 small tortillas
  • Serve & Enjoy
  • Serve your fish tacos immediately with extra lime wedges on the side for that zesty squeeze. Dig in and experience the burst of flavor! 🌮🔥
